About

From a road trip to a real community.

Little Lebowski Church began as a traveling photo project and grew into something none of us fully planned — a genuine spiritual community and the seeds of the Abiding Grove.

Where it started

Little Lebowski Church began as a traveling photographic project — a journey across the country to find and document the real-life Dudes of America. People living simply, living freely, or just living in a robe on a Wednesday afternoon. The photos captured something honest: that the philosophy of taking it easy was alive, and it was everywhere.

The project moved through bowling alleys, front porches, festivals, desert camps, and small living rooms. It crossed state lines and time zones. Along the way, it gathered a community — people who recognized something in the Dude's way that matched how they wanted to live.

How it became a church

Dudeism — the world's slowest-growing religion — provided the framework. Founded in 2005 and organized around the principles of the film and the philosophy of ease, Dudeism is a modern spiritual practice rooted in Taoist and Zen traditions. It takes taking it easy seriously, without taking itself too seriously.

Little Lebowski Church became an expression of that tradition — not just a fan project, but a contemplative, creative, land-based spiritual community. We gathered. We bowled. We cooked food and sat in circles and talked about what it means to abide in the world as it actually is.

Where we're going

The Abiding Grove is the next chapter. A real physical place — a community eco-campus with camping, food forest, makerspace, bowling lanes, disc golf, and gathering space. A place to rest, create, steward land, and belong.

We're building it milestone by milestone, through memberships, events, donations, and the labor of people who show up. The road trip never really ended — it just found somewhere to land.
